PR & Communications Officer
Location: London, WC1X 0DL
Expires: 2 June 2008
This is an exciting opportunity to join a new and highly ambitious organisation. The British Postal Museum & Archive (BPMA) cares for the archive and museum collections of Royal Mail. Our Designated Public Record Archive and Museum Collections range from sheets of Penny Blacks, posters and 1930s films, to mobile post offices and telegrams from the Titanic.
We need to raise the level of our strategic communications and media work with the goal of raising our public profile. We are also working towards the delivery of a year long festival that will take place during 2010 to raise public awareness and understanding of British stamp design for which we are developing a PR strategy.
The PR & Communications Officer post sits within the BPMA’s Access & Development Team. Its purpose is to develop and implement all of the BPMA’s press and associated media communications work, supporting the delivery of a diverse range of activities including exhibitions, events and product launches, and raising organisational profile in support of newly developed fundraising and advocacy strategies.
Responsibilities
• To devise and implement media strategies and creative profile-raising initiatives for exhibitions, events, major projects, and product launches.
• To produce and distribute press materials including press releases, briefings, statements and to support production of staff-authored articles.
• To extend our media contacts, establishing relationships with key journalists, editors and other media professionals.
• To proactively pursue PR opportunities, deal with press enquires and act as a spokesperson where necessary.
• To manage production and distribution of promotional material in print, online and for broadcast as necessary.
• To undertake media monitoring and evaluation of PR work.
